Prior to his current appointment Roberto was Vice-Minister for Promotion of Agribusiness at SAGARPA (Ministry of Agriculture) and Director-General of FEESA (Fund of Expropriated Enterprises of the Sugar Industry). From 1984 to 2001 Roberto worked at McKinsey & Company, where he managed various projects for financial institutions, governments and telecommunications firms in Mexico, Latin America and the US.

He writes a weekly column for Reforma newspaper. He has co-authored 2 books: “Dangerous Markets: Managing in Financial Crises” (Wiley & Sons, New York, 2002) and “Mexico’s Dilemma, The Political Origins of Economic Crisis” (Westview Press, Denver, 1984). He regularly features in media outlets such as Foreign Affairs and Este País.

PhD in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Universidad de las Américas at Puebla (UDLA).

Juan Pardinas

Prior to his current appointment, Juan was a researcher at the Center for Research on Development (CIDAC) in Mexico City. He also held professorial appointments at UNAM and ITAM in Mexico and the London School of Economics. For two years he was CNN’s Spanish-language correspondent in India and Japan. He writes a Sunday column for Reforma daily.
Currently Juan collaborates in news analysis segments in TV and radio shows. Highlights of his publications include “Tú y tu voto construyen la democracia” (“You and your vote build democracy”) and “Impuestos, un mal necesario” (“Taxes, a necessary evil”). He is a frequent guest writer for magazines such as Nexos, Letras Libres and Este País.

Manuel Molano

Prior to his current appointment, Manuel was Director-General for Trust fund that commercializes sugar in Mexico (FICO) and deputy director at the ministry of Agriculture from 2001-2003. Between 1998 and 2000 he was an entrepreneur in the manufacturing sector.

Manuel features regularly as guest writer in media outlets such as Foreign Affairs, El Universal and Expansión,. Besides his current appointment, Manuel is professor at Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLA) and a member of the board of HR Ratings, a Mexican risk rating agency. Among Manuel’s recent publications are:  “Hinders the winners, boost the losers: growth and economic sectors in Mexico” Brookings Institution, 2010 (pending publication)  “The end of the line: competitiveness of agriculture in the wake of NAFTA” Foreign Affairs Latinoamérica, vol,8, no.2, 2008 -in collaboration with Roberto Newell and Rodrigo Gallegos.

Master’s degree in Economics from Imperial College London and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from ITAM. He received Banamex’s Economics Prize in 1998, a nation-wide distinction awarded to the best undergraduate thesis in Economics.

Prior to his current appointment, Rodrigo was Advisor at the Cabinet for Social Development, Consultant for the UNDP in Asia and Financial Researcher at the Mexican Central Bank.

He is a columnist for El Economista newspaper and regularly features as guest columnist at media outlets such as Foreign Affairs, Este País, Política Digital and Expansión, among others. Rodrigo is member of the Editorial Board of Política Digital magazine.

Master’s Degree in Public Policy (MPP) from Harvard University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from ITAM (Autonomous Institute of Technology of Mexico).

Armando Chacón Villar

Prior to his current appointment, Armando was Deputy Director-General for Investment Project Analysis at the Ministry of Agriculture (SAGARPA). From 1996 to 2001, he was Advisor for General Coordination of Revenue Policy at the Ministry of Finances (SHCP). Armando was also an Associate at KPMG Washington National Tax (2002-2003) and independent consultant of management and strategy in Europe and Asia (2002).

Currently he is a columnist for El Economista newspaper and regularly features as guest columnist at media outlets such as Expansión and El Universal, among others.

Armando holds an MBA from Georgetown University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from ITAM.

Gabriela Alarcón Esteva

Currently carrying out studies on competitiveness of cities and how it impacts on the quality of life for its inhabitants. Some of his main research topics include: urban planning, housing development, water and sanitation systems, solid waste management, mobility and transport, public finance, pollution and health, public safety and civic culture.

Prior to joining the IMCO, he worked in the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, Nacional Financiera, the National Institute of Ecology and a environmental consulting firm. He was also an independent consultant to SEMARNAT, SEDESOL, the New York Economic Development Corporation and several multinational companies on issues of policy and environmental management.

Prior to her current appointment, Alejandra was professor and Academic Coordinator at the Economics department at ITAM. She also led and starred in a television show focused on topics of public policy, at Canal 40. Alejandra is a columnist at El Universal newspaper. She is a member of the Finances Committee at the American School Foundation.
