This contrasts with the global trend, where women&#8217;s participation increased from 21% to 32.5% between 2016 and 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c4\">For the fifth consecutive year,\u00a0<span class=\"c15\">the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), in partnership with Kiik Consultores, measures women\u2019s representation on boards and in senior management across nearly 200 publicly listed companies in Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c4\"><span class=\"c2\">Additionally, for the first time, a survey was conducted with more than 250 companies to measure gender gaps at the state level, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development of Jalisco.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.rxqac38vlqgd\" class=\"c12\"><span class=\"c9\">Women in companies in Mexico<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"c12\"><span class=\"c13\">Boards<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c4\"><span class=\"c16\">In 2025, women hold 14% of board seats. Four out of five companies report a commitment to gender equality, but is this reflected in practice?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c12\"><span class=\"c13\">Micro, small and medium entreprises (MSMEs)<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"c3 lst-kix_list_2-0 start\">\n<li class=\"c0 li-bullet-0\">47% of business owners are women.<\/li>\n<li class=\"c0 li-bullet-0\">In one out of five MSMEs, women hold more than half of leadership positions.<\/li>\n<li class=\"c0 li-bullet-0\">Although 85% of these companies are familiar with the concept of the gender pay gap, only half know how to measure it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_84982\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-84982\" style=\"width: 1038px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-84982 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/imco.org.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3wib.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1038\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/imco.org.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3wib.png 1038w, https:\/\/imco.org.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3wib-300x127.png 300w, https:\/\/imco.org.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3wib-1024x435.png 1024w, https:\/\/imco.org.mx\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/3wib-768x326.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1038px) 100vw, 1038px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-84982\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Women in Business Jalisco 2025 survey by IMCO, Kiik, and SEDECO.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"c14\"><span class=\"c19 c16\"><strong>Women\u2019s representation in management positions by company size<\/strong><\/span><span class=\"c19 c16\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"c13\">Large companies<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"c3 lst-kix_list_3-0 start\">\n<li class=\"c12 c24 li-bullet-0\">Women tend to lead marketing and human resources, while men dominate operations and technology.<\/li>\n<li class=\"c12 c24 li-bullet-0\">In large companies in Jalisco, for every four promotions given to women, five are given to men.<\/li>\n<li class=\"c24 c32 li-bullet-0\">44% of companies have formal inclusion programs with monitoring mechanisms, and 24% measure and disclose their progress on gender equality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c14\"><span class=\"c34\"><a class=\"c33\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/imco.org.mx\/en\/more-women-greater-growth-economic-impact-at-the-national-and-state-level\/&amp;sa=D&amp;source=editors&amp;ust=1778529191905978&amp;usg=AOvVaw05CW4KHINJv8rC79wqHnpe\">IMCO estimates<\/a><\/span><span class=\"c2\">\u00a0that if Mexico increased women\u2019s labor force participation from 46% to the OECD average of 67%, it would require incorporating 18.6 million women into the labor market, potentially increasing national GDP by 6.9 trillion pesos by 2035.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c14\">In Jalisco, increasing women\u2019s participation could raise the state\u2019s GDP by 112.6 billion pesos over the next decade, equivalent to a 5.2% growth.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.ulqzctcjobn8\" class=\"c30 c31\"><span class=\"c19 c16 c29\">Recommendations<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"c4\"><span class=\"c13\">Large companies.<\/span><span class=\"c2\">\u00a0Set annual targets to progressively increase women\u2019s participation on boards to 40%.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c4\"><span class=\"c2\">As well as, strengthen pay transparency through audited gender pay gap reports and a federal platform to publish standardized results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c4\"><span class=\"c13\">MSMEs.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"c2\">Advance gender gap measurement through the digitalization of administrative records.
