Director of Economics, Mexican Institute for Competitveness (IMCO)

At IMCO, Jesús leads a sustainable economics research agenda. He conducts the efforts of a team focused on energy and water policies, international trade, and public finance, as well as their connection with competitiveness and the socioeconomic conditions in the country. Jesús is a Mechanical engineer from the Instituto Tecnológico de Chihuahua, with a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Economics from El Colegio de México (Colmex), where he also teaches. 

Before working at IMCO, he developed the statistical and economic analysis of the oil exploration and production potential in Mexico for the National Hydrocarbons Commission. He was a member of the Fox International Fellowship at Yale University during 2020-2021. Jesús has also collaborated in research projects on the welfare state in Mexico and international inequalities, and writes op-ed columns for different media outlets.
